How to read effectively?

Reading requires a series of strategy which can help you to effective reading. When you start to read you loose focus easily and get distracted. It is also important to focus on the right things in the text so you can understand much. Here I am going to explain six methods for effective reading.

1         Scanning the main parts

When scanning the main parts go through the following parts:
1. Title
2. Heading and first line of each paragraph
3. Pictures, charts, bars and block diagrams
4. Introduction and conclusion part.
From this you will get the basic knowledge and understanding of the topic and text.

2         Question

Questions are designed to focus the main idea or points. By following this step, you read with a goal on mind – answering specific questions.

3         Get the idea

Using the above two steps, get the idea of what the text is about. Guess the main point about the text and summarize in your language.

4         Read

Read with the passion. Do not afraid if the text has too many words you can’t understand, just read. Make notes.
Read second time, and start to question-answer in your mind.

5         Recite

Discuss the information with your teacher, a classmate or a friend. Also you can use internet. You get the more knowledge.

6         Review

Review your information and notes verbally after every two or three days. Studies have suggested that students remember 80% of what they learn if they repeat the information verbally. If they do not repeat verbally, they often forget 80%.
